Overview

Lactobacillus fermentum GM-090 is a specific probiotic microbial strain isolated from the human gastrointestinal tract. Developed by GenMont Biotech, it is primarily investigated for its immunomodulatory properties in treating allergic diseases, particularly atopic dermatitis. The strain functions by stimulating the secretion of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), which promotes a Th1-type immune response and inhibits the Th2-mediated allergic pathway, including the suppression of interleukin-4 (IL-4) and immunoglobulin E (IgE) synthesis. Clinical studies, including randomized controlled trials in children, have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing the severity of atopic dermatitis (measured by SCORAD scores) and improving quality of life, both as a monotherapy and in combination with other strains like *Lactobacillus paracasei*.
