Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Lactobacillus gasseri LA806** is a specific probiotic strain of the species *Lactobacillus gasseri*, evaluated primarily for its benefits in gastrointestinal health. Mechanistically, it supports intestinal barrier function by adhering strongly to intestinal epithelial cells and reinforcing the epithelial barrier, reducing hyperpermeability, and decreasing visceral hypersensitivity, as shown in preclinical models. In clinical studies, supplementation with this strain in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) led to significant improvements, including reduced abdominal pain, enhanced symptom severity scores, and improved quality of life. LA806 also demonstrated potential in reducing *Candida albicans* colonization and shaping a protective gut microbiota profile in animal models, through immunomodulation of macrophages and anti-inflammatory effects.
