Overview

Lactobacillus helveticus CM4 is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria utilized in fermented milk products for its health-promoting benefits. The active component is the live L. helveticus CM4 microorganism itself. This strain is distinguished by its highly efficient proteolytic system, which includes enzymes like PrtY proteinase. During milk fermentation, these enzymes break down milk proteins to produce bioactive peptides, notably Val-Pro-Pro (VPP) and Ile-Pro-Pro (IPP). These peptides function as inhibitors of the angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE), a key regulator of blood pressure. [7] Clinical studies have indicated that products containing L. helveticus CM4 can lower blood pressure in individuals with high-normal blood pressure or mild hypertension. [11] Additional reported health benefits include the amelioration of dermatitis symptoms and the improvement of sleep quality in elderly populations.
