Lactobacillus johnsonii N6.2 phospholipids are bioactive lipid compounds extracted from the probiotic bacterial strain Lactobacillus johnsonii N6.2. [2, 6] This investigational compound functions as an immunomodulator by targeting dendritic cells. [2, 3] The phospholipids act as agonists on Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and signal through the non-canonical NF-κB pathway. [2, 6] This interaction induces an immature, migratory-regulatory phenotype in dendritic cells, which in turn promotes T cell anergy and an overall anti-inflammatory response. [2, 3, 6, 8] The compound is being investigated by researchers at the University of Florida for its potential to treat Type 1 Diabetes. [2, 3, 4] Studies in diabetic-prone rats have shown it can delay disease onset, and it has been observed to modulate immune cell populations in healthy volunteers. [2, 4, 6]
