Overview

Lactobacillus LB is a probiotic preparation, often heat-treated, composed of a combination of *Lactobacillus fermentum* and *Lactobacillus delbrueckii*. It has demonstrated efficacy and safety in treating acute diarrhea in children and chronic diarrhea in adults. It is also being investigated for its potential in managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D). Preclinical studies suggest its role in attenuating myopathic changes in aging rats by activating myogenic stellate cells, reversing gut microbiome dysbiosis and improving faecal metabolite profiles in chronic renal failure, and ameliorating experimental colitis. Its mechanism involves modulating gut microbiota, strengthening the intestinal epithelial barrier, enhancing macrophage phagocytosis, and exhibiting antioxidant activities. The heat-treated form is considered a postbiotic, offering beneficial effects without the risks associated with live microorganisms.
