Overview

*Lactobacillus murinus* is a commensal Gram-positive bacterial species typically found in the gastrointestinal tract of rodents and other mammals. In the context of therapeutic research, it is classified as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) or probiotic. It is being investigated for its ability to modulate the host immune system and maintain intestinal barrier integrity. Research indicates that *L. murinus* can metabolize dietary components into bioactive molecules such as indole-3-acetaldehyde (IAAld). These metabolites act as ligands for the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and influence macrophage polarization, shifting them toward an anti-inflammatory phenotype. This process subsequently inhibits pro-inflammatory signaling pathways, including NF-κB and TGF-β, thereby attenuating conditions like sepsis-induced acute intestinal injury and systemic inflammation.
