Lactobacillus oris

*Lactobacillus oris* is a species of Gram-positive, non-spore-forming lactic acid bacteria naturally found in the human oral cavity, breast milk, and gastrointestinal tract. It is being investigated as a potential probiotic for various health applications. Research indicates that specific strains of *L. oris* possess lipid-lowering properties, potentially reducing cholesterol levels by inhibiting 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGR) and modulating the FXR-FGF15 signaling pathway. It has also shown promise in improving non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and enhancing intestinal barrier function through the activation of the pregnane X receptor (PXR). In the context of oral health, *L. oris* exhibits antimicrobial activity against pathogens like *Streptococcus mutans* and *Porphyromonas gingivalis*. While primarily considered a commensal or beneficial organism, some studies have noted its ability to aggregate platelets, suggesting a potential role in the progression of infective endocarditis in susceptible individuals.
