Overview

lactobacillus paracasei is a probiotic bacterial species used as an orally administered live or heat-treated microbial intervention in clinical studies across allergic, gastrointestinal, metabolic, and oncology-supportive settings. Its therapeutic rationale is as a microbiome-directed agent that may modulate host immune responses, epithelial barrier function, and intestinal microbial ecology rather than acting through a single defined receptor target. Publicly described programs and studies include strain-specific products such as GM-080, PC-01, and LPB27, with reported investigation in atopic dermatitis, asthma, functional dyspepsia, obesity, postoperative recovery, type 1 diabetes, and as an adjunct with PD-1 blockade in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The evidence base is heterogeneous and appears strain- and formulation-dependent, with some studies reporting clinical benefit while others did not show added efficacy.
