Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus paracasei CNCM I-1572 (also known as Lacticaseibacillus paracasei CNCM I-1572 or L. casei DG) is a patented probiotic bacterial strain of human origin. Originally isolated from human feces, it is deposited at the Pasteur Institute in Paris under accession number CNCM I-1572 and redeposited at the DSMZ as DSM 34154. Developed by the Italian pharmaceutical company SOFAR and subsequently acquired by Alfasigma, this strain is widely commercialized under the brand name Enterolactis. L. paracasei CNCM I-1572 is designed to survive gastrointestinal transit, resist gastric acidity and bile salts, and temporarily colonize the human gut. It modulates the intestinal microbiota, reduces mucosal inflammation, and influences host immune responses. Clinical studies have evaluated its efficacy in managing gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (SUDD), and preventing recurrences of chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP).
