Overview
Lactobacillus paracasei CNCM I-2116 (also known as ST11 or NCC2461) is a specific probiotic bacterial strain with demonstrated immune-modulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to inhibit substance P-induced skin inflammation, accelerate recovery of skin barrier function, and reduce intestinal inflammation in preclinical models. The strain acts by modulating both mucosal and systemic immune responses, reducing proinflammatory cytokine expression (such as IL1β, IL-6, and IL12), decreasing neutrophil infiltration in the colon, abrogating mast cell degranulation, vasodilation, edema in the skin, and supporting homeostasis of the gut-skin axis. It is primarily developed for use as a probiotic dietary supplement for conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), colitis prevention/treatment, and reactive/inflamed skin conditions[1][2][3][5].
