Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus paracasei CPU2306 is a specific probiotic strain being developed as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) for the management of hyperuricemia and gout. Developed by the Shandong Provincial Third Hospital in collaboration with China Pharmaceutical University, this strain was selected for its high capacity to degrade purine nucleosides (such as adenosine and guanosine) and uric acid within the intestinal lumen. By reducing the availability of these precursors for absorption, the therapy lowers the systemic load of uric acid, thereby mitigating the risk of urate crystal formation in the joints. In addition to its direct metabolic activity, the strain may also help restore gut microbiota balance, which is often disrupted in patients with metabolic disorders. It is typically administered orally as a powder or capsule.
