Overview

Lactobacillus paracasei DTA81 is a probiotic bacterial strain investigated for its potential chemopreventive and therapeutic effects in colorectal cancer (CRC). In preclinical studies, DTA81 administration has been shown to reduce liver oxidative stress by lowering levels of malondialdehyde and carbonyl protein. It also modulates the colonic immune response, leading to decreased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Interleukin-17 (IL-17). Additionally, the strain appears to inhibit cell proliferation in the colon, as indicated by reduced expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). DTA81 also promotes a favorable gut microbiome composition, increasing the abundance of the genus Ruminiclostridium and elevating the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), particularly acetic acid, which are associated with improved intestinal health.
