Overview

Lactobacillus paracasei GMNL-143 is a proprietary strain of the lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus (Lacticaseibacillus) paracasei developed by GenMont Biotech as a probiotic/para-probiotic for oral health applications. It is a gram-positive, non-spore-forming, non-motile, facultative anaerobic rod with a growth temperature range of 25–45°C and pH tolerance from 4.0 to 10.0.[1] Genomic analysis of GMNL-143 has identified multiple bacteriocin genes and the absence of transferable antibiotic resistance or virulence genes, supporting a favorable safety profile.[2] In preclinical and clinical studies, heat-killed GMNL-143 formulated in toothpaste demonstrates strong coaggregation with key oral pathogens (including Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and Prevotella intermedia), inhibition of pathogen adhesion to gingival epithelial cells, and suppression of growth of some anaerobic pathogens, collectively shifting oral microbiota toward a healthier state and improving gingival index in adults with mild to moderate gingivitis.[2][3][4]
