Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus paracasei HII01 is a specific probiotic strain of bacteria originally isolated from the fermentation of northern Thai pickle. [2] It is being investigated for a range of therapeutic benefits. Clinical and preclinical studies have shown that L. paracasei HII01 can improve metabolic conditions such as obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. [2, 13] Its primary mechanism of action involves modulating the gut microbiota, which leads to a reduction in gut inflammation, decreased intestinal permeability (leaky gut), and lower systemic endotoxemia (LPS levels). [2, 7] This modulation has been linked to improved glycemic control and a decrease in inflammatory markers like TNF-α and IL-6. [2, 13] Beyond metabolic diseases, research also suggests potential benefits in promoting healthy aging and providing neuroprotection, as demonstrated in C. elegans models where it extended lifespan and protected against amyloid-beta toxicity. [10, 14] It has been studied both as a standalone probiotic and as part of synbiotic formulations.
