Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus paracasei LC-19 is a specific probiotic strain developed and investigated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences for its potential therapeutic effects on obesity and metabolic homeostasis. As a live biotherapeutic product, LC-19 is intended to modulate the gut microbiota, which in turn may influence host energy balance, glucose metabolism, and lipid profiles. It is currently being evaluated in randomized controlled trials to assess its efficacy in weight reduction in overweight and obese individuals, often compared against established pharmacological interventions such as the GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide. The research aims to clarify the role of this probiotic in improving metabolic health and preventing long-term weight regain.
