Overview

Lactobacillus paracasei LP-33 is a probiotic bacterial strain, recently reclassified as Lacticaseibacillus paracasei LP-33, that is primarily utilized for its immunomodulatory properties. It is developed and marketed by Uni-President Enterprises Corp, particularly in the form of functional dairy products and dietary supplements. The strain is hypothesized to alleviate allergic symptoms by modulating the balance between Th1 and Th2 immune responses, specifically by inducing the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10 and IFN-gamma while reducing the levels of allergen-specific IgE. Clinical research, including the NCT01096615 trial, has focused on its efficacy in managing persistent allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis, often as an adjunct to standard H1-antihistamine therapy.
