Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus paracasei MSMC 39-1 (also classified as Lacticaseibacillus paracasei MSMC 39-1) is a probiotic bacterial strain originally isolated from healthy human infant feces by researchers at Srinakharinwirot University in Thailand. It exhibits potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, primarily through the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), and interleukin-17A (IL-17A), thereby modulating the IL-23/IL-17 inflammatory axis. Developed in collaboration with Winona Feminine, the strain is utilized both as an oral probiotic (marketed under the brand Winona Probio) and as a topical postbiotic solution (derived from its cell-free supernatant). It has been clinically evaluated for the treatment of mild chronic plaque psoriasis, mild-to-moderate acne vulgaris, and metabolic syndrome, and has shown preclinical efficacy in models of alcoholic hepatitis and kidney fibrosis.
