Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus paracasei PC-01 is a specific probiotic strain belonging to the Lacticaseibacillus paracasei species, primarily investigated for its therapeutic potential in gastrointestinal disorders. Developed and studied by researchers at the West China School of Public Health, Sichuan University, in collaboration with By-Health Co., Ltd., it is being evaluated as a live biotherapeutic product for the treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD). The strain is thought to exert its effects by modulating the gut microbiota composition, enhancing intestinal barrier integrity, and potentially influencing the gut-brain axis to improve gastric motility and reduce visceral hypersensitivity. Clinical evidence from randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials suggests that oral administration of PC-01 can significantly alleviate symptoms of functional dyspepsia, including postprandial fullness and epigastric pain, thereby improving the quality of life for affected patients.
