Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus pentosus GMNL-77 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain developed by GenMont Biotech. It is being investigated for its immunomodulatory properties, particularly in the treatment of chronic inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis. The strain functions by modulating the gut-skin axis, leading to a systemic reduction in proinflammatory cytokines. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that oral administration of GMNL-77 can significantly decrease erythematous scaling and epidermal hyperplasia by downregulating the interleukin (IL)-23/IL-17A cytokine axis. It also reduces levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), IL-6, and IL-22, while decreasing the infiltration and activity of IL-17-producing T cells.
