Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum-based quadruple probiotic is a microbial therapy consisting of a combination of four probiotic strains, including *Lactobacillus plantarum*. This formulation has been investigated by researchers at West China Hospital, Sichuan University, for its potential to alleviate Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) in patients undergoing surgery for rectal cancer. LARS is a collection of symptoms, such as fecal urgency, increased bowel frequency, and incontinence, that frequently occur after low anterior resection. The probiotic mixture is designed to modulate the gut microbiota, restore intestinal barrier function, and reduce postoperative inflammation, thereby improving bowel function and the overall quality of life for patients.
