Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum CJLP133 is a specific probiotic strain of the species L. plantarum, originally classified under the genus Lactobacillus and now also referred to as Lactiplantibacillus. This live biotherapeutic product is used primarily for its ability to modulate gut microbiota and immune responses. Mechanistically, it acts by competing with pathogenic bacteria for nutrients and adhesion sites in the gut, producing antimicrobial compounds, altering local environmental conditions unfavorable to pathogens, and modulating host immune responses[1][3]. Clinical studies have shown that oral supplementation with L. plantarum CJLP133 can reduce symptoms of atopic dermatitis in children by decreasing SCORAD scores (a measure of disease severity), lowering eosinophil counts, and reducing inflammatory cytokines such as IFN-γ and IL-4[3]. Preclinical data also suggest potential benefits in allergic rhinitis models through modulation of Th1/Th2 balance via cytokine regulation[5]. The strain is typically administered orally as a dietary supplement.
