Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum GKD7 is a specific probiotic strain developed by Grape King Bio, primarily researched for its anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective effects in the context of osteoarthritis. As a live biotherapeutic, it is thought to modulate the gut-joint axis, leading to a reduction in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-α) in the synovium and cartilage. Preclinical studies in rat models have demonstrated that oral administration of GKD7 improves weight-bearing asymmetry, protects articular cartilage from degradation, and maintains subchondral bone architecture. Beyond joint health, the strain has also been investigated for its potential to mitigate muscle atrophy and sarcopenia.
