Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum GKM3 is a specific probiotic strain of the species Lactobacillus plantarum (now also classified as Lactiplantibacillus plantarum). It is used as a dietary supplement and functional food ingredient, primarily for its potential health benefits related to gut health, weight management, anti-aging effects, and cognitive function. Preclinical studies in animal models have shown that supplementation with L. plantarum GKM3 can delay aging processes, alleviate age-related cognitive impairment, reduce oxidative stress in the brain, lower amyloid-β accumulation (a marker associated with neurodegeneration), and improve behavioral outcomes[1][5]. In humans, it has been marketed for supporting weight loss by reducing body fat and appetite while improving bowel movements and immune function[4]. The mechanism of action involves modulation of the gut microbiota and reduction of oxidative stress markers; it may also influence metabolic parameters such as triglyceride levels[1][4].
