Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum J26 is a probiotic bacterial strain isolated from Chinese traditional fermented dairy products. It exhibits significant immunomodulatory activity by regulating the expression of immune-related genes, including upregulation of cytokines such as IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in the intestinal tract. The strain produces teichoic acids that are key molecules involved in modulating host immune responses[1]. L. plantarum J26 has demonstrated beneficial effects in animal models for alleviating alcohol-induced liver injury by reducing Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria abundance, maintaining intestinal barrier integrity, and inhibiting TLR4-mediated MAPK signaling to reduce liver inflammation[5][6]. Additionally, postbiotics derived from this strain (J26P) have shown efficacy in lowering cholesterol and improving metabolic parameters via regulation of the LXRα–CYP7A1–bile acid excretion pathway in hypercholesterolemic mice[7]. Its mechanisms also include increasing short-chain fatty acid production and activating Nrf2 signaling to alleviate oxidative stress[6].
