Overview

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KU15117 is a probiotic bacterial strain isolated from traditional Korean kimchi. It is being investigated for its potential anti-obesity and anti-adipogenic properties. Preclinical research has demonstrated that the strain exhibits high tolerance to artificial gastric juice and bile salts, as well as strong adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells (HT-29). Its mechanism of action involves the downregulation of key adipogenic transcription factors, including peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPARγ) and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-alpha (C/EBPα), and the enzyme fatty acid synthase (FAS), leading to reduced intracellular triglyceride accumulation and inhibition of adipocyte differentiation.
