Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum PL-02 is a specific probiotic strain of human origin, originally isolated from the intestinal tract of an Olympic weightlifting gold medalist. It is primarily developed and studied for its ergogenic effects, including the enhancement of muscle mass, grip strength, and endurance performance, as well as its anti-fatigue properties. The strain is thought to function via the gut-muscle axis by reducing exercise-induced oxidative stress and inflammatory markers like lactate and ammonia while increasing glycogen storage. Beyond sports nutrition, PL-02 has been investigated in clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease as part of a multi-strain probiotic regimen aimed at modulating the gut-brain axis to improve cognitive function and increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
