Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus plantarum PL15A, also classified as Lactiplantibacillus plantarum PL15A, is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria. [3, 5] It is supplied by the Chinese company Thankcome Bio (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. [4, 8] This strain is used as an ingredient in multi-strain commercial products, including yogurt starters and dietary supplements intended for functions like weight management and immune system regulation. [1, 6, 13] Additionally, L. plantarum PL15A has been utilized in research for fermenting traditional medicinal plants, such as Gastrodia elata. [4, 11] Studies in animal models suggest that this fermentation process may help alleviate cognitive deficits associated with Alzheimer's disease by modulating gut microbiota and neurotransmitter levels. [4, 11] Like other probiotics, its general mechanism involves promoting a healthy balance of intestinal flora, which can influence the host's health through the gut-brain axis. [11]
