Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum SQ001 is a specific strain of *Lactobacillus plantarum* isolated from the cecum of hyperuricemia (HUA) geese. It is being investigated as a probiotic therapy for hyperuricemia and gout. The strain works by improving the gut microbial community and facilitating hydrolase-mediated degradation of purine nucleosides. Mechanistically, it promotes nucleoside uptake and hydrolysis through its nucleoside hydrolase gene, downregulates hepatic xanthine oxidase (a key enzyme in uric acid synthesis), and modulates renal transporters by downregulating the reabsorption protein GLUT9 and enhancing the expression of the renal excretion protein ABCG2. These actions collectively contribute to reducing serum uric acid levels.
