Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum strains 299 and 299v is a probiotic formulation under investigation for its potential to prevent acute graft versus host disease (aGvHD) in children, adolescents, and young adults undergoing donor stem cell transplant. This intervention aims to maintain intestinal integrity, modulate the intestinal flora's phylogenetic composition and function, and exert immunomodulatory effects by influencing inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, it is being studied for its ability to reduce the incidence of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea and potentially decrease hospital stay duration post-transplant. The drug is administered orally or via feeding tubes.
