Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum TCI378 is a probiotic bacterial strain isolated from naturally fermented Korean kimchi. Developed by TCI using advanced bioresource data mining, it is marketed as ProbioFit and has demonstrated clinically supported benefits for weight management and fat reduction. The primary mechanism involves high bile salt hydrolase (BSH) activity, which breaks down bile salts in the gut, thereby disrupting fat emulsification and absorption. This leads to reduced dietary fat storage and increased excretion of fats. In vitro studies show that both live bacteria and their metabolites suppress adipocyte-specific genes such as perilipin 1 and glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4), further supporting anti-obesity effects. Clinical trials have shown efficacy in reducing body weight without medication or dietary restrictions[1][2][3][6][8].
