Overview

Lactobacillus plantarum Y44 is a specific probiotic strain of the species *Lactobacillus plantarum* (recently reclassified as *Lactiplantibacillus plantarum*). It has been investigated for its antioxidant activity and its ability to survive gastric and intestinal transit. In preclinical studies involving obese mice fed a high-fat diet, L. plantarum Y44 demonstrated the potential to ameliorate intestinal inflammation and lipid metabolism disorders. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of gut microbiota, leading to an increase in short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production and a reduction in the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio. Furthermore, it regulates lipid metabolism by inhibiting the expression of fatty acid synthase (FAS) and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) in the liver, strengthens the intestinal barrier by up-regulating tight junction proteins such as claudin-1 and occludin, and reduces systemic inflammation by down-regulating the p38 MAPK pathway and lowering levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-8 and TNF-α.
