Overview
Lactobacillus probiotic lozenges are an investigational live biotherapeutic product developed by Boston Medical Center for the management of low-grade oral dysplasia. The therapy is designed to be administered daily to modulate the oral microbiome and reduce peri-tumoral inflammation. Specifically, it aims to alter the populations of tumor-associated macrophages and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes at the site of the lesion. The goal of this intervention is to induce clinical regression of dysplastic lesions and decrease the risk of malignant transformation into oral cancer. A Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT05707702) was initiated to study these effects but was subsequently withdrawn.
