Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus reuteri BGR46 is a specific probiotic strain of the species Limosilactobacillus reuteri (formerly Lactobacillus reuteri). Developed by BioGaia New Sciences, it is being investigated as a topical live biotherapeutic product (LBP) for the treatment of pediatric atopic dermatitis. The strain is incorporated into an emollient formulation designed to improve skin barrier function and modulate the skin microbiome, potentially reducing the colonization of pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus which is often associated with atopic dermatitis flares. Clinical evaluation focuses on its efficacy in improving symptoms and skin health in children with mild to moderate eczema.
