Overview

Lactobacillus reuteri CCFM1132 is a specific probiotic strain of the species Lactobacillus reuteri (also known as Limosilactobacillus reuteri). It has been studied for its ability to modulate gut microbiota and exert beneficial effects in several disease models. Mechanistically, it lowers serum uric acid by suppressing xanthine oxidase activity and increasing the abundance of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) producers in the gut. This leads to increased SCFA production, which is negatively correlated with uric acid levels and xanthine oxidase activity. The strain also improves liver and renal function markers in clinical studies. Preclinical research indicates additional benefits such as reducing skin stratum corneum thickening (potentially relevant for psoriasis), lowering blood creatinine, triglycerides, alkaline phosphatase activity, and upregulating intestinal uric acid transporter ABCG2 expression[6][7][10]. It is primarily developed as a functional probiotic for hyperuricemia/gout relief but may have broader applications including skin health.
