Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 122460 is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria. It has been investigated in clinical trials, primarily for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (eczema) in children, where it is almost always administered in combination with another probiotic strain, *Lactobacillus rhamnosus 19070-2*. [1, 2, 4, 7, 12] The proposed mechanism of action for atopic dermatitis involves modulation of the host's immune system. It is thought to help balance the T-helper 1 (Th1) and T-helper 2 (Th2) immune response, potentially reducing the Th2-dominant allergic inflammation characteristic of atopic diseases. [2, 10] Studies have also shown that this probiotic combination can reduce intestinal permeability, which is often increased in patients with atopic dermatitis. [6, 17] While the broader species *Lactobacillus reuteri* is under investigation for celiac disease through mechanisms like gluten peptide degradation and immune modulation via the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) pathway, there is no evidence in the scientific literature to suggest that this specific strain, DSM 122460, is being developed for celiac disease. [19, 20, 21] Research for celiac disease focuses on other strains of *L. reuteri*.
