Overview
Lactobacillus reuteri GMNL-263 (Lr263) is a specific probiotic strain developed by Genmont Biotech. It has been investigated in both live and heat-killed (HK) forms for its metabolic and anti-inflammatory properties. Research indicates that GMNL-263 can improve insulin resistance, reduce hepatic steatosis (fatty liver), and mitigate diabetic complications such as cardiomyopathy, renal fibrosis, and neurodegeneration. Its mechanisms of action include the modulation of gut microbiota, suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6), activation of the IGF1R cell survival pathway, and repression of the TLR4 and TGF-β signaling pathways. It has been evaluated in clinical trials for Type 2 Diabetes and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).
