Overview
Lactobacillus reuteri LR-G100 is a specific strain of the probiotic bacterium *Lactobacillus reuteri*, marketed as a live biotherapeutic product and dietary supplement. This strain is used to improve digestion, lower cholesterol, enhance immunity, and reduce clinical allergy symptoms. It is characterized as an anti-allergenic lactic acid bacteria and can be incorporated into various food products such as yogurt, soy milk, milk powder, beverages, and dietary supplements. The mechanism of action involves modulation of the gut microbiota and immune system; *L. reuteri* strains are known to produce antimicrobial substances (such as reuterin), inhibit pathogenic bacteria adhesion in the gut or oral cavity, modulate inflammatory responses by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α in monocytoid cells[7][9], and may influence systemic immunity through metabolites that activate host immune pathways (e.g., via tryptophan metabolism)[2][6]. Long-term use has been associated with reduced allergy symptoms.
