Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus reuteri SLG01 is a probiotic bacterial strain under development for the prevention of dental caries. In preclinical studies, a formulation containing L. reuteri SLG01, vitamin C, and acerola demonstrated bactericidal and antibiofilm activity against Streptococcus mutans, a primary cariogenic pathogen. The strain's cell-free supernatant (CFS) exhibits rapid bactericidal kinetics, significantly reducing S. mutans viability and impairing biofilm formation. It is being investigated as a non-antibiotic, preventive adjunct to maintain oral health and prevent dysbiosis of the oral microbiome.
