Lactobacillus reuteri TSR332 is a probiotic bacterial strain isolated from the healthy human gut and developed by Glac Biotech. It is being investigated for the management of hyperuricemia and gout. The strain's primary mechanism of action involves the assimilation of purine nucleosides, specifically inosine and guanosine, within the gastrointestinal tract. By consuming these precursors, TSR332 reduces the amount of purines available for absorption and subsequent conversion into uric acid by the liver, thereby lowering serum uric acid levels. Preclinical studies in rat models have shown that long-term supplementation with TSR332 effectively stabilizes uric acid levels without adverse effects on renal function or body weight. It has also been evaluated in human pilot trials, both as a monotherapy and in combination with other probiotic strains, to improve purine metabolism and liver function.
