Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus reuteri Y7 is a human-derived probiotic strain originally isolated from healthy breast milk and deposited under the ID BCRC 911162. Developed and researched primarily by Taipei Medical University, this strain is being investigated for its therapeutic potential in neurodegenerative and inflammatory disorders. In preclinical studies, oral administration of Lactobacillus reuteri Y7 has demonstrated significant neuroprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. In animal models of Parkinson's disease, Y7 supplementation attenuates both motor and non-motor impairments, reduces dopaminergic neurodegeneration, and improves mitochondrial function. Additionally, in murine models of chronic blue light exposure, Y7 protects against retinal degeneration by modulating the gut-retina axis, preserving retinal morphology, and suppressing pro-inflammatory pathways.
