Overview

This is a multi-strain probiotic combination containing the bacteria Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and the yeast Saccharomyces boulardii. These microorganisms are considered "good" or beneficial microbes that naturally inhabit the human gastrointestinal tract. As a supplement, this combination is primarily used to restore and maintain healthy gut flora balance, especially after antibiotic use or during episodes of diarrhea. The mechanism of action involves competitive inhibition of pathogenic bacteria, enhancement of mucosal barrier function, modulation of immune responses in the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), production of short-chain fatty acids (by bifidobacteria), and direct antagonism against pathogens (notably by S. boulardii). This combination has been used for prevention and treatment of various types of diarrhea (including antibiotic-associated diarrhea), support in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), improvement in lactose digestion, reduction in symptoms related to gastrointestinal infections, and general digestive health[5][2][3]. Each component may also have additional specific benefits such as reducing eczema risk (L. rhamnosus) or improving lipid profiles (B. longum)[9][10].
