Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is an oral probiotic supplement containing a combination of three specific bacterial strains: *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* BPL205, *Lactobacillus plantarum* BPL207, and *Lactobacillus crispatus* BPL209, often supplemented with vitamin D. [13] Developed by ADM/Biopolis, this product is a live biotherapeutic designed to restore vaginal health by normalizing the vaginal microbiome. [2, 6] The probiotic works by colonizing the gut and vaginal microbiomes, where the bacteria produce lactic acid and other antimicrobial substances. [15, 17] This lowers the vaginal pH and inhibits the growth of pathogenic microorganisms, helping to resolve conditions like bacterial vaginosis and vaginal dysbiosis. A pilot study known as PROSALVAG demonstrated that daily oral supplementation could restore a healthy vaginal pH and a Lactobacillus-predominant flora in women with vaginal dysbiosis. [3, 13]
