Overview

Lactobacillus rhamnosus CCFM1069 is a specific strain of *Lactobacillus rhamnosus*, a Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium commonly recognized as a probiotic. Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host. *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* was reclassified as *Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus* in April 2020, though the former name is still widely used. This bacterium is known for its ability to survive the acidic conditions of the stomach and bile salts in the small intestine, allowing it to colonize the gastrointestinal tract effectively. Its primary mechanism of action involves modulating the gut microbiota by inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria through competitive exclusion and the production of antimicrobial substances like lactic acid. It also enhances gut barrier function, modulates the immune system both locally and systemically, and contributes to the production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). While specific clinical data for the CCFM1069 strain are not readily available, *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* strains in general are widely used in dietary supplements and functional foods for various health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of different types of diarrhea, alleviation of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms, support for vaginal health, and modulation of immune responses related to allergies and atopic diseases. Some research also suggests potential roles in bone health, weight management, liver health, and cognitive function.
