Overview

Lactobacillus rhamnosus CLR2 is a proprietary probiotic bacterial strain developed by Bio-K Plus International (Bio-K+). It is one of the three active live bacterial strains—alongside Lactobacillus acidophilus CL1285 and Lactobacillus casei LBC80R—that comprise the Bio-K+ probiotic formulation. Marketed as a consumer supplement in North America since 1996, it is available in oral forms such as enteric-coated capsules and fermented dairy or vegan beverages. The strain's mechanism of action is centered on the modulation of the gut microbiota, which helps to restore intestinal balance and prevent dysbiosis. Clinical evidence supports its use in the prevention of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) and antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD), as well as in the management of symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
