Overview

This product is a **combination of two probiotic strains**: *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* GG (LGG), also referred to as *Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus* GG, and *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* BB-12. Both strains are extensively studied human probiotics. The mechanism of action involves colonization of the gut, modulation of the gut microbiota, and interaction with the gut-associated lymphoid tissue, which may affect local and systemic immune responses. LGG and BB-12 have been shown to increase their presence in feces upon supplementation, and generally are associated with improvements in surrogate markers for gut and immune health. In clinical studies, this combination has shown modest support for increasing response to seasonal influenza vaccination in older adults, and both strains have been studied individually and in combination for prevention or management of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, acute gastroenteritis, and upper respiratory tract infections, particularly in children and older adults[1][2][3][4]. However, the evidence for effectiveness is strongest for prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea in children, and recent rigorous studies in elderly institutionalized adults report limited efficacy for infection prevention and immune biomarker modulation[1][3]. Safety profile is generally favorable in studied populations[2].
