Overview

This synbiotic formulation is a combination of two well-characterized probiotic bacterial strains, *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* GG (LGG) and *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* BB-12, paired with the prebiotic fibers inulin and oligofructose. The formulation is designed to synergistically enhance gut health by providing live beneficial bacteria alongside selective substrates that promote their growth and activity. Clinical studies, including the EU-funded SYCAN project, have investigated this combination for its ability to modulate the gut microbiota, improve intestinal barrier function, and stimulate systemic immune responses. Research has specifically targeted the reduction of colorectal cancer risk markers, the prevention of polyp recurrence, and the enhancement of immune function in elderly populations and stressed individuals (e.g., college students). The synbiotic has demonstrated the capacity to increase natural killer cell activity and the production of key cytokines like interferon-gamma and interleukin-2.
