Overview

Lactobacillus rhamnosus JL-1 is a probiotic bacterial strain isolated from the feces of healthy infants, currently under investigation as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP). Developed by researchers at the Northeast Agricultural University in China, the strain is being studied for its potential to treat and prevent diet-induced obesity and related metabolic complications, such as hyperlipidemia and hepatic steatosis. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of the AMPK signaling pathway and the regulation of key lipid metabolism factors, including PPAR-γ, LXR-α, and SREBP-1C. Preclinical studies in mouse models have demonstrated that JL-1 can effectively reduce body weight, serum total cholesterol, and triglycerides while promoting the production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids in the gastrointestinal tract.
