Overview

Antibiophilus is a live biotherapeutic product (probiotic) containing the bacterial strain *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* LCR35 (formerly classified as *Lactobacillus casei* variety *rhamnosus*). It is primarily indicated for the restoration of intestinal flora and the treatment of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (AAD). The LCR35 strain works through competitive exclusion, adhering to the intestinal mucosa to inhibit the growth and colonization of pathogenic bacteria, and by producing antimicrobial substances that modulate the gut microbiome. Beyond its approved use for AAD, Antibiophilus has been investigated in Phase 3 clinical trials for the removal of intestinal colonization by multidrug-resistant bacteria. It has also been studied for various gastrointestinal conditions, including functional constipation in children, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and as an adjunct in Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy.
