Overview

Lactobacillus rhamnosus LCS-742 is a probiotic strain of the gram-positive lactic acid bacterium *Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus* (formerly *Lactobacillus rhamnosus*), developed by Morinaga Milk Industry. It is primarily utilized in pediatric nutrition and clinical research, often in combination with *Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis M-63* and prebiotic fibers. The strain is designed to colonize the infant gastrointestinal tract, where it modulates the gut microbiota and supports the development of the immune system. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing crying time in infants with colic, improving gastrointestinal tolerance, and potentially preventing the development of atopic dermatitis in high-risk infants. It is characterized by its stability in powdered formulations and its ability to survive gastric transit to exert beneficial effects in the intestines.
