Overview

Lactobacillus rhamnosus LRa05 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain being investigated as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) for the treatment of metabolic disorders, specifically Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Developed by researchers at The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, this strain is hypothesized to improve metabolic health by modulating the gut microbiota. Clinical studies are evaluating its efficacy in improving glycemic control (HbA1c and fasting blood glucose), optimizing lipid profiles, and reducing systemic inflammation (C-reactive protein) when used as an adjunctive therapy to standard hypoglycemic agents. The strain is intended to restore microbial balance in the gut, which is thought to influence systemic insulin sensitivity and metabolic homeostasis.
